HHHunt vs StyleCraft in Richmond: Two Virginia Builders, Two Insured Warranties, One Choice (2026)

If you are shopping for an attached home in Richmond and you have ruled out the nationals, the two names left standing are usually HHHunt and StyleCraft. Both are Virginia companies, both closed over 200 homes here in 2025 (HHHunt 365, StyleCraft 210), and both sell townhomes and low-maintenance homes in the same Chesterfield, Henrico, and Hanover corridors, sometimes in the same community. They are also the two builders in this market with the most clearly documented warranties, which makes this one of the few comparisons you can settle mostly on paper.

Where they overlap

The two sell side by side at The Aire at Westchester in Midlothian, where HHHunt, StyleCraft, Main Street, and Eagle all build, which makes it the single best place to compare them in person. Both also build 55+ product in Hanover: StyleCraft at Chickahominy Falls and at Hickory Grove in Ashland, HHHunt across its Hanover communities. Elsewhere the map separates them. HHHunt’s footprint runs wider, from Chesterfield out to New Kent, and its River Mill community in Henrico opens townhome sales in late summer 2026. StyleCraft concentrates in Chesterfield, Hanover, and Henrico and never builds outside the Richmond region at all, which is unusual: it is the largest builder in this market that exists only here.

Warranty: the best-documented matchup in the market

Most Richmond builder comparisons stall at “warranty terms not published.” Not this one. HHHunt carries a third-party insured 10-year warranty administered through PWSC and backed by Zurich: one year workmanship, two years systems, years 3 through 10 structural, transferable to a future buyer, with scheduled 60-day and 11-month visits. StyleCraft publishes a warranty FAQ describing one year of all-inclusive coverage plus a 10-year RWC structural warranty. Both structures are insured by third parties, which puts them ahead of most of the market; HHHunt’s transferability language is the differentiator if you may sell within ten years. The full 17-builder table is in our warranty comparison.

Finish, product, and price

Both builders aim at the same buyer: someone who wants more included finish and more local accountability than a national builder townhome, without semi-custom pricing. In our experience the models read similarly, and the deciding differences are location and floor plan rather than a consistent finish gap, so compare specific communities rather than brands. Townhome pricing for both mostly runs from the low $300s to the mid $400s depending on county and product line, with 55+ and low-maintenance detached product above that. Where they share a community, as at Westchester, ask each sales office for the included-features sheet for the specific series and put them side by side; the differences show up in items like window count, trim packages, and what the “included” landscaping actually covers.

Lender ties: neither runs a captive mortgage company

Unlike Ryan, Lennar, D.R. Horton, and Stanley Martin, neither HHHunt nor StyleCraft owns its lender. HHHunt lists four outside preferred lenders (CMG, United Bank, TowneBank, CrossCountry) whose credits are negotiated deal by deal. StyleCraft publishes no lender tie at all. That means smaller headline credits than the nationals advertise, and also less steering; an outside lender does not cost you a five-figure incentive here the way it does at NVR. Our incentives guide covers how to compare net cost either way.

What buyers report

StyleCraft has the stronger visible record: 4.4 across 195 Google reviews aggregated by Birdeye, an A+ BBB profile with two complaints in three years (both settlement-crack related), against a weak 1.8 on Houzz from 12 reviews. HHHunt’s public record is oddly thin for a builder its size: a C- corporate BBB grade on just 4 reviews, and few complaints in absolute terms for a company closing 365 homes a year. Locally, HHHunt’s warranty team at the Glen Allen office has historically been among the more reachable in the market. Neither builder shows the complaint-volume pattern the nationals do.

Which one, for which buyer

Frequently asked questions

Is HHHunt or StyleCraft better for a townhome in Richmond? Both are Virginia companies with third-party insured warranties and similar price bands. HHHunt offers a transferable insured 10-year warranty and a wider footprint; StyleCraft has the stronger public review record (4.4 across 195 Google reviews) and builds only in Richmond. Compare specific communities rather than brands.

Do HHHunt and StyleCraft build in the same communities? Yes, at The Aire at Westchester in Midlothian, where both build alongside Main Street and Eagle. Both also build 55+ product in Hanover at separate communities.

What warranty does HHHunt offer? A third-party insured 10-year warranty through PWSC backed by Zurich: one year workmanship, two years systems, years 3 through 10 structural, transferable, with 60-day and 11-month service visits.

What warranty does StyleCraft offer? One year of all-inclusive coverage plus a 10-year structural warranty administered by RWC, described in the warranty FAQ on its website.

Do HHHunt or StyleCraft require a specific mortgage lender? No. HHHunt lists four outside preferred lenders and StyleCraft publishes no lender tie. Neither owns a captive mortgage company, so using your own lender does not forfeit a large builder credit.
